Keogh River Watershed Restoration and Steelhead Population and Ecology Studies
InStream Fisheries Research Inc are the primary contractors on all aspects of in-river restoration, watershed assessment and salmonid monitoring for the Keogh River. These studies include:
- Operation of Enumeration Fence and Fish Counter.
- Management and analysis of data, population estimate production and reporting.
- Management and organization of the Watershed Restoration work done on the Keogh River. Including habitat assessment and prescriptions, construction of habitat structures and back channels, supervising large machinery, and co-ordinating helicopter drops of large wood and boulders
- The design and re-construction of the enumeration fence and fish counter and other fish trapping facilities in the Keogh watershed.
- Assessment of juvenile densities and growth for the Keogh-Waukwaas paired watershed study. Summer and autumn density sampling and comparative response analysis.
- Fish sampling and identification of adult and juvenile salmonids, tagging (including set-up and execution of CWT programs, and PIT tagging), angling and tagging of adult steelhead.
- Development of a discharge curve using flow metering (Gurley & Cable-way meter) vs. water level.
- Living gene bank sample collection, support to hatchery and planning for adult assessments.
- Hiring and training of crews.
- Project Management.
